Baby size Security Blanket!

this is what I started with...

this is where I ended :)

I needed a baby gift for a shower that I have been invited too...I headed out to JoAnn Fabrics, one of my favorite places to shop, and picked up some cute fabric to make this security blanket. I have always heard that infants only see in Black and White when first born, so I couldn't pass up this awesome soft and cuddly fabric and red being one of my favorite colors, I thought I would throw that in there as well.  I started with 3 piles of fabric all with different textures, the red is a knobby texture, the black is satin and zebra print is a short pile fabric that is just plain SOFT!  Ribbon that I added are also different textures as well, one satin and one ribbed! Ribbon can be purchased by the roll and in many neat colors/patterns (don't use wired edge ribbon)

I spent less than 20.00 for all of the items to make this gift and once completed I still have enough fabric to make at least 2 more complete items, so basically a unique handmade baby gift for about 7.00, made with LOVE!

If you are interested in making one of these for you or a friend, it really is an EASY project...I cut the background into a 20x20 inch square and the 4 squares on top are 10x10 inches each...this gives you enough fabric to make a nice seam and still end up with about a 18x18 inch completed blanket. The ribbon that I add is about 6.5 inches, I double it and sew into the seam so that  final size is about 3 inches . Make sure that you leave enough of an opening to get your hand inside to turn it right side out and then finish the open on your machine with a quick straight stitch. I iron the entire blanket to flatten out the seams and just that quick you are done.

I hope you enjoy and make this often...I have made 4 (2 purple and lime green, 1 chocolate and blue and the 1 shown here), of these so far and everytime put a smile on the expectant mommy's face!

Have fun making one of these for that special baby in your life!
